School is not out, we are online

Covid 19 pandemic caused the closure of schools on March 12,2020across the island. We were then tasked to take teaching and learning into a new paradigm as we navigated online learning using various platforms.

Virtual learning was at its best as students were engaged in live classes for one hour at least twice per week using Zoom cloud meetings and dissemination of activities and works sheets through what's app platforms. Assessment was done through socrative.com testing website with teachers invigilating using zoom for quality assurance purposes.

YouTube videos were utilized along with power point presentations with demonstration videos to enhance students grasp of the concepts. Grade six class boasted a 90% turn out for all classes scheduled throughout the 3 month period.

Virtual learning had it's set backs as students at times were without data or internet connection. The school saw the need and set out to assist by purchasing data plans on a weekly basis for students who are in need. Donations were recieved from the Mayor of Portland, His worship the mayor Paul Thompson and board member Stephanie Webber to enable us to continue our support to students. The school had an overall 80% engagement rate during the remote teaching experience.
